The date is that of the first year of production of a Traditional Method sparkling wine at the Conte Vistarino estate by Count Augusto Vistarino. Since then the estate has used that date as the name of its Traditional Method sparkling wine made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes from the vineyards of the Tenuta di Rocca de’ Giorgi estate which are soft-pressed and fermented in reduction. The wine then sits on the lees for 60 months and then ages for at least another six months after disgorgement with some 7,000 bottles produced a year, as was the case in vintage 2011.
A fragrant sparkling wine with a luminous, straw-yellow color and a fine effervescence. The bouquet has refined notes of white flowers and fresh ones of candied citrus enriched by a complexity of dried fruit and baked goods. The intense mouthfeel has an energetic structure from the Pinot Noir which in the flavorful finish reveals an almost balsamic tonality.
