Chianti Rufina Riserva del Don 2009

This surprisingly lovely Riserva allows the Colognole vineyard to place itself among the best in the district. It has a concentrated ruby color that holds together and shines on the edge of the glass. The nose has the beautiful variety of a northern Sangiovese with flowery scents of violet well assisted by a clear and intense fruit streak with a full range of cherry. The use of wood is excellent and gives only a slightly balsamic accent that does not interfere with the fruit. The attack is one of great elegance with well-developed tannins and a significant acidity which, however, is not separate from the body. Being a Rufina the body is not exaggerated but the finish is persistent and very deep.
