Chianti Rufina Riserva 2009 Vigna Vecchia

This was another nice surprise in this tasting and demonstrated how timid improvements in the past have happily paid off. It convinces right from its compact and lovely ruby color which is a prelude to what is to come. The nose is nicely intense with a bouquet of ripe fruits, like blueberry and currant that broaden the classic cherry, which is decidedly ripe, and blackberry. The woody spiciness is nice and balanced with a balsamic and slightly verdant streak. There is also a hint of incense all the way through. The taste is very nervous but richly dense and still young with an excellent tannin, although a bit sharp, and a supporting acidity. A few more years in the bottle will help relax this wine and expand its already excellent and persistent finish.
