This is the opposite of a great year like 2007. The wine has a dark, almost opaque garnet color with aromas that are initially and ’coldly’ grassy but with breathing take on notes of black tea, pine resin and thyme on a background of currant. The mouthfeel is unexpectedly meaty with a finish of cacao and truffle. In the glass the wine changes constantly. A fine wine but it lacks the frankness and contrast between the acidity and tannins that a Chianti Classic should have. Were this a super Tuscan it would have a rating over 90 points.
