This was a pleasant surprise, a great wine caught at its peak just before it begins its (presumably slow) decline. Both the color and the aromas are dark (bouillon cube, meat, licorice, red fruit notes more than floral ones) while the mouthfeel is heavy and good, not that energetic. The finish is also dark, earthy and with some anchovy. Perhaps it was the year, the first of a series of very hot ones, but this wine seems more like one from Castelnuovo Berardenga, more or less. While excellent now, I don’t think it will stay at this level for many more years.
