While 2003 may not have a good reputation, everything and the opposite of everything has been written about 1997. There is no doubt this wine is excellent. Its color is dark yet fresh, the bouquet is a tad reluctant to open up but then reveals a wild, animal aroma, one of fur, and there is no hint of reduction. The vegetal component and the floral trademark of a Sangiovese Chianti are still intact. The mouthfeel is savory and rough while the finish could be a postcard of the territory (Tuscan cigar, violet and a smoky note). It gets even better with breathing.
