While vintage 2013 was certainly not excellent, due to the weather on the right bank, it still gives a picture of the potential and characteristics of this Merlot.
The color is a classic ruby with a light texture but one with an excellent consistency and brightness (thanks to filtering with egg-whites). The impact of the bouquet maintains the typical aroma of this varietal grown in clay-chalky soil with notes of black truffle, blackberry and some porcino mushroom. This later becomes less expressive, a reminder that it was a wet year, but the continuity of the fruit allows it to maintain the charm of a light, seductive wine. The mouthfeel has fine tannins, significant freshness and a nicely proportioned structure. The finish is very long.
I would avoid giving a rating to this wine that should be drunk now (more or less it would be a tad under 90/100) but I can say that it would go well with a meal that is not too elaborate, like a celeriac parmesan with a tomato-gorgonzola ragù, to have an apropos Italo-French pairing.
