Made from Sangiovese and aged for at least two years in barriques and tonneau barrels. The vineyard is not far from Torrenieri, in the northwestern sector of Montalcino, where the soil is red clay with a ferrous component that makes it unique for the area, thus an authentic cru, while the altitude is almost 400m above sea level. This is a bold Brunello that has an intense ruby-garnet color and a bouquet dominated by red and dark fruit together with hints of spice and slightly smoky sensations that evolve to dominate the aroma creating scents of tar and licorice. The mouthfeel is warm, rich yet taut with an excellent acidity and salinity which will ensure its evolution for decades to come. The tannins are still young and evident but for the most part offset by the extracts and alcohol level while the finish is warm with an endless persistence. This wine came in first in the list of the best 50 Italian Wines during the 2016 Best Italian Wine Awards.
