Made from Sangiovese grapes. This 2004 version of Cerretalto, a Brunello that comes from a very particular vineyard situated in the most easterly part of the zone, is a very successful one indeed. It has an intense ruby colour (though less deep than in other vintages) and very elegant scents of sour cherries and plums, with particularly perceptible hints of tobacco underlying. Its flavour is forthright and slightly tannic, but very well sustained by the acidity that is typical of the vintage and promises a long future ahead of it. The persistence of the finish is excellent. Serve it at 20°C, together with Tuscan scottiglia (a rich soup made from various types of meat), roast beef or roast kid.
