Leonardo considers the storerooms of the family’s vintage Vin Santo (which in Tuscany are called ‘madri’ o mothers) as a very important inheritance, indispensable to give his wine the family touch. In the glass the wine is visibly thicker than a regular in wine and it has a very intense, al-most amber, golden color. The bouquet is intense with scents of dried fruit, walnut, hazelnut, dates and then dried apricot on a pleasing background of acacia honey. This all returns in the flavor with a dense mouthfeel which is tasty and soft, velvety and balanced, with a measured sweetness that eases off in the finish, leaving a memory that is anything but sickly sweet. This is the tradition of dry Vino Santo which I, personally, find the most elegant.
