Mauro and Maria Teresa Colacino run this winery they inherited from their father Vittorio where they seek to unite managerial skill and innovation with tradition and the inherent nature of the product. In his 1975 book Vino al Vino, Mario Soldati wrote ‘’…no one is Savuto, Savuto is only Britto’’. Arvino (Gaglioppo), Greco Nero, Magliocco Canino and Nerello Cappuccio grapes are carefully fermented to extract their best qualities. After malolactic fermentation the wine ages on the lees, in part in wood and in part in steel, before further aging in the bottle.
The compact ruby color has a garnet edge while the wrapping aroma has scents of stewed prunes and marasca cherries under spirits, with a light floral nuance of red rose and spice notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and heady with blended-in tannins, a lovely freshness and a long and sugary finish.
