Basileus 2010

Poderi Marini, an estate managed by siblings Maria Paola and Salvatore Marini, is situated in Sant'Agata, a district in the town of San Demetrio Corone (CS). This was the second year Basileus, 100% Magliocco, was produced. It was fermented in 8-hectoliter wood vats, aged in steel and in 4.5-hectoliter wood barrels and then in the bottle.
The color is an interesting and very intense purple-ruby and the wine has a distinct personality both to the nose and the palate. There is red fruit in the bouquet and some evident underbrush which quickly evolves into balsamic leather aromas. The mouthfeel is clear-cut and has great body, with a distinct presence of tannins and a savory persistence.
