Here we are in Neive, the most austere and 'angry' Cru of Andrea 'Sottimano'. This is its legendary vintage, the one that convinced him to create a 'Riserva'. It is an unusual Barbaresco, almost like a Barolo from Serralunga. Its producer, a very big fan of Burgujndy, tries to create a common link, a twinning of these two blessed areas but he does not always succeed, as in this case. The color is intense, rich, luminous, while the aroma is anything but that of a Pinot Noir and it oozes the Langhe from every pore, red fruit (black cherry, prune and currant). The flavor is outstanding with tannins that still need to be tamed, that still growl, with a lovely texture. This is a wine I really appreciate for its enormous, vital energy.
