Avvoltore 2001

Many may not agree with my evaluation, above all the winery's proprietor. The color is so deep it is almost bluish, gloomy. The nose has some very warm scents, slightly overripe, prune jam, cherries under spirits, candied citron and accents of banana with chocolate. The flavor is very bold and compact, with tannins that are still thick and a bit biting, which inhibits a proper progression. The finish is certainly compact and of excellent length even if the wine seems a little thick. I would have preferred greater harmony. In other words, this is an extremely muscular wine, very American orientated.
