Aquila Reale Riserva 2005

2005 was one of the most surprising and positive years of the last great harvests and produced some major wines, like this Aquila Reale Riserva.
The color is a full and vaguely golden yellow, while the bouquet starts broad and multiform and is made agile by nice fresh fruit. It is amazing how intensely recognizable the scents are of exotic fruit cocktail and dried fruit, anise and vanilla, vegetal elements and hydrocarbons are almost iodine and sea salt. This all became a promise maintained in the mouth with the addition of a clear rotundness to take the edges off a pronounced mineral freshness. It all closes very slowly with a spectrum of sensations recalling yellow grapefruit, pomelo (editor's note: one of the three species from which all known citrus derive from, the others being citron and mandarin), cotton candy and sweet tobacco. A wine with the personality, balance and elegance of a true champion.
