Commonly referred to as “the 51”, this almost celebrative traditional method bubbly was named after Moser’s 1984 world hour record and today 30,000 bottles are produced a year. It is a Chardonnay-based bled that as a small addition of Pinot Noir from Moser’s vineyards at Maso Villa Warth overlooking Valle dell’Adige, while the Chardonnay is from the vineyards in Lavis and the terraced ones in Val di Cembra. The origin of the grapes is important because they give the blend a balance of maturity, freshness and sapidity, depending whether the soil is clay, limy or pebbly. The wine is for the most part made in stainless steel, with a careful and limited use of barrels and barriques, and sat on the less for some 30 months on the lees.
The wine has a bright and lively color while the bouquet plays on the aromatic fruitiness of the Chardonnay with a citrusy and iodine streak that creates a fine vein of freshness, which also in the mouth is never biting.
