Vinitaly postponed

On the contrary to what was announced a few days ago, VeronaFiere gave in to the coronavirus and decided to postpone the wine show, from Sunday 14th to Wednesday 17th June.

After an unofficial news published on the website of Assovini Sicilia (the first to spread the news), the rumors were more and more decisive. They were just waiting for the official confirmation from the Fair Authority, which arrived late in the afternoon. Rumours had been circulating for several days about the possible postponement of Vinitaly, in particular after the announcement of ProWein in Düsseldorf, caused also by the increasingly worrying news coming from overseas between cancelled flights and authoritative institutions that advise against travelling to Italy, with the consequent cancellation of the participation of numerous foreign buyers and press.
 
THIS IS THE OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUÉ OF VERONAFIERE
 
Verona, 3 March 2020 - "In view of the rapid evolution of the international situation that generates evident difficulties for all trade fair activities on a continental level, VeronaFiere has decided to reposition the dates of Vinitaly, Enolitech and Sol&Agrifood from 14 to 17 June 2020, i.e. in the best period to ensure exhibitors and visitors the highest quality standard of the business". This is how Giovanni Mantovani, General Manager of VeronaFiere at the end of the Board of Directors of the Spa, met today. "Vinitaly, together with OperaWine," continued the general manager, "will therefore take place in a timeframe in which great excellences of Made in Italy, such as Cosmoprof and Salone del Mobile, for example, will have the task of strongly relaunching the attention of international markets and the image of Italy. At this juncture we thank the companies for the trust they are showing us".
 
The decision was the result of a careful analysis of the available data as well as listening to the positions of market stakeholders, including the main sector associations: Unione Italiana Vini, Assoenologi, Federvini, Federdoc, Federazione vignaioli indipendenti and Alleanza delle Cooperative settore vitivinicolo. "The move to June of Vinitaly and other important international events in the cities of Milan and Bologna - explains Maurizio Danese, President of VeronaFiere - is a sign that Made in Italy is betting on a prompt economic recovery in key sectors of the country system. We therefore hope that the new national trade fair calendar can generate renewed confidence and be an instrument with which to capitalise on the restart of our country". VeronaFiere will activate a task force to assist its customers in every area necessary for the reorganisation of postponed events and, in close collaboration with the relevant associations, will prepare all the necessary incoming actions to guarantee the presence of qualified buyers and professional operators. On the new dates, moreover, Confcommercio Verona and Cooperativa Albergatori Veronesi have expressed maximum availability to facilitate the transfer of reservations.
 
In 2021 Vinitaly will be on the calendar on its usual dates (18-21 April); dates that are the result of the agreement with the Union of Great Crus of Bordeaux (UCGB) with which from 2013 there is an agreement created to meet the needs of the leading players in the world of wine, buyers and the international press in particular.

 

Ha da passà a nuttata

Era ovvio che anche il nostro mondo sarebbe stato colpito dalla situazione che stiamo vivendo. Turismo fermo, voli aerei cancellati, alberghi che si svuotano, ristoranti che dimezzano i coperti quando va bene. Manifestazioni annullate una dopo l’altra. Posti di lavoro e aziende a rischio. Noi italiani considerati alla stregua di “untori” con Paesi che ci chiudono le loro frontiere.

È un vero disastro e l’unica cosa che si può sperare è che duri poco, perché altrimenti il futuro per milioni di persone potrebbe essere veramente problematico. E ciononostante bisogna provare ad avere nervi saldi. Deve passare la nottata. Dobbiamo prepararci al dopo, perché un giorno o l’altro questo incubo finirà.

Bisogna resistere e avere coraggio, e lo dico a me per primo. Perciò vorrei mediaticamente abbracciare e stringere la mano a tutti i ristoratori, agli albergatori, ai produttori di vino, a tutti coloro che lavorano a qualsiasi titolo nel nostro settore in questo momento di grande difficoltà. Coraggio, ce la faremo a uscirne, ci vorrà tempo, ma ce la faremo.
