Diego Molinari Cerbaiona Montalcino

Another great old protagonist of Montalcino's success has gone, so on tiptoe.

Anyone who cared about Montalcino knew him: Diego Molinari, the commander for friends, together with his wife Nora, had been the creator of those incredible Brunello wines of Cerbaiona winery, thanks above all to a wonderful vineyard on the eastern front of Montalcino, at an altitude of about 370 metres.

A few years ago he sold the winery to a foreign finance company and the last Brunello from Diego and Nora was the 2011 vintage, the last one with his unique style that combined power and elegance. We like to remember two of his Brunello's most important vintages: a great 2004 and the last masterpiece, 2010, red wine of the year for our Essential Guide 2016. One of his favorite phrases was: "to make Brunello do not beat it and do the 'right thing' in the right time, the rest does it alone".

We will miss him very much, his "godson" Riccardo Viscardi and the entire editorial staff of DoctorWine.

The funeral will take place in Montalcino, Thursday 4 at 10 am at the church of the Madonna del Soccorso.
