Master restaurateur Bruno Borghesi has passed away

The great master of catering left us yesterday morning. The funeral tomorrow at the Church of San Luigi Gonzaga in Rome.
Bruno Borghesi passed away yesterday morning at the age of almost 88; he was born Dec. 13, 1934. A refined professional in the restaurant and hotel industry, his career had begun in Milan, at Le Roi, in 1956 and later moved to Versilia, where he created the Caprice in Viareggio. From there he had gone on to open the Open Gate in Florence, before buying, in 1965, the Birreria Moretti in Rome and turning it into the San Souci: one of the Capitole's most renowned restaurants, whose sign would later also camp in New York and Los Angeles. After handing over the Sans Souci in 1999, he continued his career at the helm of the Mirabelle restaurant at Rome's Splendide Royal hotel until the very end.
In his long career, Borghesi had the opportunity to hang out with such singers as Fred Bongusto and Mina, meet Lollobrigida, Loren, Bergman, and Rossellini, as well as come into contact with many prominent politicians, including Ronald Reagan.
The funeral will be held at the Church of San Luigi Gonzaga on Villa Emiliani Street (Piazza delle Muse) on Tuesday 18 at 3 p.m. . It is the wish of the Family - to whom the editorial staff of DoctorWine embraces in grief for their loss - that no floral tributes be sent, but rather a donation to the Ryder Italia Onlus Association.
