Consorzio Vino Chianti: Disappointing Italian Cure

"World markets blocked, but we can't leave the fields. We need stronger measures to support farms".
We need more support measures for all farms, without discrimination in terms of turnover and regardless of whether they are performing well or not. This is the message that comes from the Consorzio Vino Chianti after reading the "Cura Italia" decree, which "does not meet our expectations in terms of allocating the funds allocated for interventions in favour of companies, in terms of measures in the tax, social security and labour and social security fields, nor in the field of credit", says the director of the Consorzio Marco Bani.
"The postponement of the current deadlines to the month of May 2020 or its possible short installments, when we will still be, according to experts, in the waning phase of the pandemic will see companies struggling with liquidity problems due to the continuing crisis in the market and consumption and therefore unable to meet the deadlines," adds the director.
The farms, and the world of wine in particular, have specific needs: "The markets are blocked - says the president of the Chianti Wine Consortium, Giovanni Busi - so sales are at a standstill, but we cannot stop production because stopping our companies would mean leaving the fields. The internal market has been at a standstill for weeks, now commercial outlets in Europe, the United States and South America are also closing. China, which is slowly recovering, is a new market that can in no way compensate for the standstill of our historical references. It's okay to protect employees for companies forced to stop, but in our case the workers are all at work because our activities follow the vegetative cycle of plants, which follows each other regardless of disasters and pandemics: at least in the current phase will serve us very little use the lay-off fund, we need interventions to support companies that must continue to produce but can not and will not sell.
