Daniele Cernilli alla Chianti Classico Collection

The leitmotif of the two days at the Leopolda in Florence is the new subdivision of Chianti Classico into Geographical Units. It will be Daniele Cernilli, honorary ambassador of Chianti Classico to hold the seminar on the subject, entitled "The nuances of Chianti Classico" (Monday 21 at 3pm).

After last year's edition held, due to the health emergency, in May, in the magnificent museum complex of Santa Maria Novella, the twenty-ninth Chianti Classico Collection returns to take place in the first quarter of the year, Monday, March 21 and Tuesday, March 22, and in its historic location, the Stazione Leopolda.

Leitmotiv of the two days of tasting and theme at the base of the setting of the location will be the Chianti Classico territory and its subdivision in Geographical Units, the new path the appellation has decided to take.

The project of Additional Geographical Units is an important step in the path of valorization of the distinctive characteristics of Chianti Classico: a path that, in the last years, has brought the Black Rooster denomination higher and higher in the international rankings of quality wines, increasing its notoriety, prestige and spreading on tables all over the world.

This new subdivision of the Chianti Classico production territory in smaller and more homogeneous areas, will allow the name of the commune or of the hamlet to be written in the label (in a first phase only in Chianti Classico Gran Selezione wines), by strengthening the communication of the binomial wine-territory, by increasing quality in terms of identity and territoriality, by allowing the consumer to know the origin of grapes and, last but not the least, by stimulating the demand through the differentiation of the offer.

The introduction of the name of the commune or of the hamlet in the label will in fact serve to intercept and satisfy the interest of consumers who, in increasing number, want to deepen the knowledge of the relationship between Gallo Nero's wines and their territory of origin.

For this reason have been identified and delimited eleven areas within the production area of Chianti Classico, distinguishable according to the unique combination of natural factors (soil composition, microclimate, location of vineyards, etc..) and human factors (cultural history, local traditions, community spirit): San Casciano, Greve, Lamole, Montefioralle, Panzano, Radda, Gaiole, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Vagliagli, Castellina, San Donato in Poggio.

Our director Daniele Cernilli will explain, glass in hand, the differences between the various areas.

Inside the Leopolda, both in the producers area and in the tasting catalog in the area with sommelier service, will be highlighted this new subdivision of the production area, in order to allow operators and press to make tastings for UGA, in order to understand and appreciate the various organoleptic nuances.

The program: in the two days of Monday March 21st and Tuesday March 22nd at the Leopolda will finally return the producers in attendance. 180 Black Rooster estates will be present, for a total of 650 labels to be tasted, of which 161 Chianti Classico Riserva and 125 Gran Selezione, with 39 preview samples of the 2021 harvest.

The two days will be dedicated exclusively to the press and to wine professionals, who will have access to the large spaces of the Leopolda to taste the latest Black Rooster vintages in complete safety.

The seminars: in addition to Daniele Cernilli's masterclass Le sfumature del Chianti Classico (Monday, March 21 at 3pm), there will be another one by Filippo Bortolotta, dedicated to the longevity potential of DOC wines, Il Chianti Classico in nove decadi: degustazione verticale dal 1949 ad oggi (Tuesday, March 22 at 11am. 30), a real journey through the history of Chianti Classico, with stages preceding the official recognition of the DOC, with a guided tasting of some historical labels of the Black Rooster, one per decade, starting from the end of the 1940s.

Olio Dop Chianti Classico:in the occasion of the Chianti Classico Collection could not miss the presence of the other main product of the Black Rooster, Chianti Classico DOP oil. In particular will be set up a tasting table of the green DOP of the Black Rooster, where it will be possible to taste the oils of 24 producers.
