The Jerry Thomas Speakeasy celebrates its first ten years of activity with a book.

The first speakeasy bar in Rome and Italy has come out with a book about ten years of twist on classic that has made it famous worldwide.
Ten years of history and cocktails in a book. With “Twist on Classic – the Great Cocktails of the Jerry Thomas Project”, the first secret bar in Rome and Italy, the Jerry Thomas Speakeasy, has decided to tell us about them and share their mixology recipes that made them famous in the Italian capital and around the world. Appearing five times in the World’s 50 Best Bars list, the bar is run by the magical quartet of barmen and founders Roberto Artusio, Leonardo Leuci, Antonio Parlapiano and Alessandro Procoli. Since the speakeasy’s opening in 2010, it has represented a reference point for the entire community of barmen as well as a sure bet for those looking for a cocktail created as a work of art in the heart of Rome. It is by no coincide that among those entering the door, with its small peephole through which you must give the password, something that has made it famous, are many representatives of the international star system. Among them is Jude Law, a regular when he is in Rome for work, who insisted on making a personal dedication to the bar in the book. Another important “presence” is David Wondrich, a great mixology expert and author of books - including a biography of Mr. Jerry Thomas (Imbibe, Penguin Group 2007), the 19th century maestro of the American art of making cocktails – who wrote the forward to the book.
The book is edited by Marco Bolasco, a journalist responsible for the wine and food department at the Giunti publishing house that has come out with the book. It is composed of an introductory section dedicated to the history of the bar and those behind it, followed by a chronological history of mixed drinks, from the ancestral concoctions to today’s cocktails, and capped by an authentic recipe section. This latter is unique because it includes the “twist on classic” recipes, original recipes that have been modified according to the instinctive modus operandi of the Jerry Thomas Project. “What makes this book special is that there are all the original recipes of pre-Prohibition America as well those reinterpreted by Jerry Thomas,” explained Giampiero Francesca, editor-in-chief of the BlueBlazer specialized magazine and the man behind the first app dedicated to “Italy’s Best Cocktail Bars. “The historic section is pleasingly educational, perfect for those who want to approach the world of mixology in a non-demanding way and not go to a bar totally clueless. The book is also perfect for those who simply want to mix drinks at home, especially the section dedicated to the equipment, techniques and ingredients they need to always have at their disposition”.
The publication is further embellished, aside from quality of the book itself, by the splendid photographs by Alberto Blasetti, the celebrated food photographer for many publications at his first experience with a book. The bottom line is that this book has everything it needs to be a best-seller, which we hope will be the case for the four talented barmen Roberto, Leonardo, Antonio and Alessandro for future editions after many other decades of mixing.
