The Master of Fine Wines
Lets talk about Peter Lowe, great collector and one of Britain's greatest tasters.
Peter Lowe is one of the 'silent' Lord of wine. Chairman of Berkmann Wine Cellars Family Holding (UK's largest family owned wine wholesaler), Peter is one of the most knowledgeable fine wine expert in the UK.
His passion for wine started at the age of 18, after working in a Relais et Chateau in the UK, he managed to get an apprenticeship as an Assistant Sommelier at the three Michelin star restaurant George Blanc in Burgundy, where he was quickly promoted to Head Sommelier.
For a young English person to move to France, only 10 years before another British wine icon - Steven Spurrier- had opened Les Caves de la Madeleine in Paris, was a rather bold move. The world of fine wine at that time was mainly Bordeaux and Champagne, although Burgundy had an excellent reputation amongst wine connoisseurs, being the birthplace of Pinot Noir.
Peter had the chance of knowing and growing alongside the most important vignerons in Burgundy, and learning a terroir amongst the most fascinating of the wine world. During his period in France he used to spend his free time in cellars learning and collecting. He is a great collector, but also great taster, and enjoys sharing his wines with a group of friends with the same passion. He is "responsible" for the success and the visibility in UK of Iconic wines such as Cervaro della Sala, and rising star producers such as Arnaud Ente, Lucien Le Moine, Bernard Bonin, and William Selyem to name but a few.
Peter is also a keen golfer and a great photographer - he often gets invited to fashion shows to shoot top models from all over the world (check out his instagram https://instagram.com/gaudichots?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=)
He is a very good friend of Maurizio Zanella (he doesn't really need any introduction), and over Maurizio's last visit to London, Peter shared a couple of bottles with us over dinner at Trivet - the restaurant of ex Fat Duck Head Chef Jonny Lake and Head Somm Isa Bal MS.
