“Nera” (Black) is the result of multiple attempts, tastings and important advice, above all from Kuaska. It is a Stout in the English tradition but one made keeping in mind that Sicilian consumers are used to drinking lager or light ales. Nera is made using toasted malts, with the addition of some oats to make it softer and more rounded, to give it a finer and more compact head with a café crème color. In the glass it has an impenetrable coffee color and a full-range of aromas, from toasted ones to lighter notes of coffee, licorice, carob and a hint of hops. The rewarding mouthfeel initially has a toasted malt flavor that lingers together with lighter notes of cacao, coffee, carob and a slightly bitter one of hops in the finish which remains through a long and persistent aftertaste. The body is balanced well by the alcohol content which gives the finish a warming sensation.
