Tintilia del Molise Tenimenti Grieco e Di Majo Norante

We present the new vintage now on the market, the 2019, of the two big producers of the region: Di Majo Norante and Tenimenti Grieco.

After a little less than one year, we talk again about this autochthonous grape, Tintilia, and about the wine derived from it, which insists on a territorial identity which is uniquely Molisian. Although its origins are Spanish (probably the name Tintilia derives just from the Spanish tinto which defines red wines) this grape has found its homeland in the small region of central Italy where it arrived in the second half of the eighteenth century under the Spanish domination of Borboni, as recent DNA studies and the study of new documentary sources proved. Contrary to what was thought, moreover, molecular analysis confirmed the genetic diversity between Tintilia and the varieties Bovale Sardo and Bovale Grande.

We find excellent Tintilia wines produced like Cantine Herero, Cantine Catabbo, Claudio Cipresso, Angelo D'Uva or Cantina di Remo. If we chose to point out Di Majo Norante's and Tenimenti Grieco's ones, it is because they combine an indisputable quality to a very reasonable price (respectively 10 and 12 euros) and they are also more considerable companies, which means a higher availability of wines.

Di Majo Norante winery is located in Campomarino, at the border with Apulia. Alessio Di Majo, at the head of the family's winery, is the one who is usually identified with the wines of his region, as he is the indisputable promoter of his winery and of Molise's wines in general. The range of wines he produces is very wide, all with an excellent quality/price ratio.

Tenimenti Grieco is a young winery which immediately became one of the big regional wineries, both for size and for quality. The merit is of Antonio Grieco and Emanuela Cecca, a couple who gave body and reality to their common passion for wine.
