Brunello di Montalcino Anteprima DoctorWine 2

Here is our Top Ten Brunello di Montalcino 2015.

After presenting the wines from 20th to 11th place yesterday, today we publish the Top Ten, starting from Number Ten. In first place we have a tie: two extraordinary wines that were impossible to choose between.

When a producer presented more than one Brunello, we preferred to include only the better one in order to leave room for another producer. Needless to say, all the wines are Brunello DOCG, with no IGT ones even if they were Sangiovese.

10) Brunello di Montalcino Le Lucere 2015 San Filippo

An intense and classic ruby color with a neo-classic nose and scents of yellow fruit, flowers and autumnal underbrush. The thick and juicy mouthfeel has well-defined and structured tannins and an intriguing sapidity with a nice progression towards an austere, persistent and balanced finish.

9) Brunello di Montalcino Rennina 2015 Pieve Santa Restituta

A classic and nicely structured ruby color. The aroma is initially slightly closed but then opens to distinct notes of cherry and marasca cherry along with a slight smoky hint and those of fine spice. The mouthfeel is youthful and austere with slightly Piedmont-esque tannins but of refined quality. The progression is very interesting and does not suffer from the crispy tannins thanks to the thick texture, while the finish is intense and flavorful.

8) Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie 2015 Marroneto

A bright, ruby-garnet color and a very classic bouquet with earthy notes and those of autumnal underbrush with hints of dark flowers. The mouthfeel fine and expands with elegant notes and a nice salinity and fine tannins making it easy to dink and complex. The excellent progression is balanced and wrapping while the finish is persistent and elegant and recalls the aroma.

7) Brunello di Montalcino 2015 Salvioni

A bright, ruby color and a clear and intense aroma with the classic scents of the great Salvioni wines, the hint of peach on dark, floral notes and those of marasca and sour cherries. A compact and agile mouthfeel with refined tannins and a sapidity continue toward a refined and consistent finish. A wine with a great future.

6) Brunello di Montalcino Schiena d'Asino 2015 Mastrojanni

An opaque yet compact ruby color with garnet reflections. The aroma fluctuates between notes of autumnal underbrush and classic fruit ones of marasca and sour cherry, while the hint of spice is compelling and balanced. The mouthfeel is youthful and compact with crispy tannins that are not out of line but balanced. The finish reflects the estate’s zone and style in regard to complexity and persistence.

5) Brunello di Montalcino La Casa 2015 Caparzo

A classic, ruby color with traces of garnet on the edge. An intense, clear aroma with fresh fruity notes of various varieties of cherry with youth giving it a smoky hint. The wrapping mouthfeel has refined, almost ethereal tannins and a freshness that is intriguing and very elegant. The finish has excellent persistence and moderation.

4) Brunello di Montalcino Casaccia 2015 Canalicchio di Sopra

A bright and classic, dark-ruby color and a very complex bouquet with notes of spring underbrush, as well as the classic cherry and some slightly balsamic spice. The mouthfeel is thick, harmonious and very progressive thanks to the high balance and consistency, while refined tannins and a balanced freshness offer an unforgettable and territorial finish.

3) Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2015 Casanova di Neri

An intense and bright ruby color and intense bouquet with notes of blonde spice, currant, blackberry and sour cherry. The thick mouthfeel is very youthful with crispy tannins which are all well integrated and help the progression towards a bold, intense finish with an excellent persistence. An amazing future.

1) Brunello di Montalcino 2015 Giodo

A dense, bright and intact ruby color with an intriguingly fresh and complex bouquet of red fruit sensations leaning towards cranberry, a floral hint of violet and fine spice. The mouthfeel is thick and compact with a commendable freshness and rarified and fine tannins that provide a relaxed and very complex progression and help create a finish with refined balances and a persistence that is more than you could ask. A great interpretation from the southern side of Montalcino.

1) Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne 2015 Siro Pacenti

An intense, compact ruby color and a bouquet of rare cleanliness and precision with classic notes of cherry, sour cherry and marasca, followed by those of blackberry and a hint of dark spice. The thick texture of the mouthfeel is consistent with the balanced, taut tannins and wrapping richness. The progression is electrifying thanks the balances that already exist despite the wine’s youth and the very persistent finish is juicy, consistent with the engaging aroma.
