Carlo Quaglia Vermut del Professore 2016 Antica Distilleria Quaglia

With this Vermouth, the Antica Distilleria Quaglia restores the utmost splendor to this wine.

If it is true that a great wine is made in the vineyard, it is equally true that a great Vermouth is made, at the same time, in the vineyard, on the mountains and in the city.

This wine from Antica Distilleria Quaglia is born in the fields of the Piedmont mountains, where the plants used for aromatizing are harvested, after foraging, where they grow and are thus not cultivated.

The wine is a blend of Moscato and Nebbiolo provided by the likes of Ettore Germano, while the final product is made by Carlo Quaglia, the family’s fourth generation of distillers in Castelnuovo Don Bosco in the province of Asti.

The city enters the equation in that Vermouth was born in Turin at the start of the 19th century, when every bar in the city center had their own recipe. Vermouth then became the first industrial wine in history, “constructed” using in part leftover wine or from absurd yields and poor grapes to end up meeting the needs of large distributors and become an ingredient in cocktails.

For several years now, the Antica Distilleria Quaglia has decided to return to producing a premium product, an expression agricultural craftsmanship, and the result is superlative, something that true wine lovers should not pass up.

Vermut del Professore 2016

20 Euro

A blend of Moscato and Nebbiolo fortified with pure alcohol and enriched with cane sugar and infused mostly with absinthe, Alpine mint, cloves, mace and gentian and matured in barriques for six months.

An antique, mahogany color of medium intensity with consistent orange reflections. The note of alcohol is perfectly merged into the bouquet and, above all, is very pure. The dominate aroma is that if absinthe and gentian, followed by scents of orange peel and vanilla creating a bouquet of superlative complexity. The full-bodied mouthfeel has a semi-sweet and consistent attack with grassy-citrusy notes to then expand and dry out at the center of the palate with a wonderfully citrus and bitter finish and an exceptional persistence.

A masterpiece to drink cold (and obviously neat) in small glasses. A great quality/price ratio.
