Agraria Riva del Garda dirigenti

Given the success they had with their olive oil, Agririva decided to double-down and focus on wine with encouraging results.

In the sleepy world of Trentino still wines, it is possible to come across a wine cooperative they would not have expected. Riva del Garda is at the extreme northern shore of the lake and home of various vineyards and it was here that Agraria del Garda was founded in 1926 with the goal of contributing to rationalizing the area’s farming sector.

Over the years it has evolved and today it is a wine reality with 300 members and 300 hectares of vineyards with the classic varietals of the territory, which range from Nosiola to Teroldego, as well as a host of non-native varieties like the classic Bordeaux varietals and Pinot Noir. The cooperative is famous for its olive oil, where it is a sector leader with many international recognitions. Given this success, manager Massimo Foa and technical director Furio Battelini decided to improve their wine output, which for a few years now has produced excellent results. The wines are good and have a very favorable quality/price ratio, which never hurts.

The following three wines impressed us, in particular.

Trentino Superiore Chardonnay Vigna Lorè 2018

90/100 - € 9, 50

Made from Chardonnay grapes, with a small addition of Manzoni Bianco, from a unique hilltop vineyard. The wine matures in part in barriques and in part in stainless steel. A bright, straw-yellow color and varied aroma with notes of fresh tea leaves, medlar and lime plus a floral hint. The broad mouthfeel is progressive with a nice salty note and an acidity that extends the flavor without interfering with the flavorful and very persistent finish.

Bottles produced: 4,000.

Trentino Maso Èlesi 2016 (biologico)

92/100 - € 15

Made from Pinot Noir from a single vineyard situated at an altitude of around 450m above sea level and matured in barriques for at least 12 months. A pale, ruby color and an intense aroma of wild strawberry, cassis and autumn underbrush. The mouthfeel has class with its refined tannins and nice acidity while the mouthfeel is flavorful, agile and a tad nervous yet progressive with a very persistent aftertaste.

Bottled produced: 4,000.

Trentino Maso Lizzone 2015

92/100 - € 17

A bled of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that matured for some two years in barriques and larger barrels. A dark and very bright ruby color with an intense, varied and classy bouquet with a smoky hint along with notes of dark fruit and red berries with an elegant balsamic sensation. The mouthfeel is thick and elegant with youthful yet nicely integrated tannins that uphold a fine progression. The finish is broad and flavorful with great persistence.

Bottles produced: 3,000.
