With the Morello Project, Alberto Tanzini, owner of Roccapesta, and Pietro Pellegrini, of the winery of the same name, have embarked on a common path to develop five crus, expressions of as many terroirs in the Maremma region.

An ambitious, unique and forward-looking project for an area that is still too little studied systematically and has extraordinary potential. Morellino di Scansano is produced in the southernmost coastal part of Tuscany, the Maremma, enclosed between the valleys of the Ombrone river and the Albegna river, and includes, in addition to the territory of the municipality of Scansano also parts of the municipalities of Grosseto and Magliano in Toscana towards the Tyrrhenian Sea, Camapagnatico, Roccalbegna, Semproniano and Manciano towards Mount Amiata.

It was precisely the diversity of the various areas that gave rise to the idea of the Morello Project, the result of the dedication of Alberto Tanzini, owner of the Roccapesta winery, and which will lead to the creation of five Cru expressions of as many terroirs in the area.

Vigna Liuzza is the first product, which has already been chosen by 100 "Italian ambassadors" of the project with the collaboration and support of Pietro Pellegrini of Pellegrini S.p.A, who married the project and became its business partner.

"Having Vigna Liuzza means owning a ticket to share a journey. A journey of research and exploration in the vineyard within the territory of Scansano, a journey of experimentation that has an ambitious goal: to find different expressions of the Sangiovese of Maremma - comments Alberto Tanzini with enthusiasm. We have selected five areas with significant differences and in each of them we want to capture the expression of Sangiovese. It is a journey of knowledge and understanding, but also a productive journey."

The areas of Scansano-so strongly identified by light and its microclimate, very different from that found in other parts of Tuscany-have their own characteristics. Geological origin, altitude, exposure, age of the vineyards, type of soil, different clones of Sangiovese planted.

Vigna Liuzza is therefore the first stop on this journey, and 100 sommeliers, restaurateurs and wine shop owners have already bet on this wine, becoming, in fact, the ambassadors of the project since its inception.

The name Vigna Liuzza a pays tribute to Giuseppe Liuzza, a Sicilian winemaker who landed in Scansano in 1980, to whom the land belonged before it was acquired by the Tanzini family. A tribute that is also a declaration of intent, a project made of perseverance, pride and a lot of dedication that is already proving to bear excellent fruit.

The Vigna Liuzza 2021, produced in 3,000 bottles, tasted during the presentation of the Morello Project in Rome during lunch at Roy Caceres' Orma restaurant, has already shown that it has great stuff.
