The cold and rain made this a difficult year, one of the worst in years. However, the “star” of Sassicaia, as in other difficult years – 2002, 1992, 1984 and 1972 – still shines bright. Although not an unforgettable vintage, this remains a surprising Sassicaia. Intense and bright ruby. Delicate and refined nose of blackcurrant, blood orange, vanilla and cocoa scent followed by hints of tobacco and mint. Tense and saline palate, elegant restrained with subtle tannin and a thin but long finish. Doesn’t disappoint even in a challenging vintage.
