This was the first Sassicaia to be produced on a large scale (69,000 bottles) and due to problems in the winery it would be another ten years before such quality was achieved. The growing season was relatively good with the right amount of sun and sufficient rainfall to guarantee excellent grapes. Maceration took place in open, 20hl Slavonian vats and the wine aged 16 months in Slavonian oak barriques made in Conegliano Veneto. The bouquet is still intense and the tannins are balanced in the structure. The softness is good.
