Daniele Cernilli awarded by Assoenologi

The 76th National Congress of Assoenologi opens this afternoon, Nov. 24. Communication awards to Daniele Cernilli and Karin O'Keefe. Applied research award to Antonio Tirelli.

The annual appointment with the National Congress of Assoenologi this year is set for November 24 and 25, 2023, in Brescia, Italy's cultural capital along with Bergamo. The two-day congress will be held at the Brixia Forum starting at 2:30 p.m. today.

The theme at the center of the 76th Congress of Oenologists and Winemakers will be "Giving true value to wine and its territories" and will also see, on Saturday 25, the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty Francesco Lollobrigida. Also expected on Saturday morning is the speech of European Parliament member Paolo De Castro, a member of the Agriculture Commission of the European Parliament.

Officially opening the proceedings on Friday 24 at 3 p.m. will be the national president of Assoenologi, Riccardo Cotarella: "This year we wanted to focus on the value of wine and the wonderful and varied territories that our country can boast. We will do this with the highest institutional figures in the sector and with the direct protagonists of the wine world. We will talk about international markets and consortia, but we will still return to the issue of wine and health. It will be a very important two days to offer a picture of the current situation and try to outline future strategies."

During the opening day there will also be room for the presentation of the Assoenologi Awards, the top honors the association gives each year to individuals who have distinguished themselves in communication and research in the wine sector. For national communication, Daniele Cernilli, director of DoctorWine, will be awarded, while for international communication the prize will go to U.S. critic Karin O'Keefe. The research prize will be awarded to Antonio Tirelli, professor of Enology and Enochemistry at the Universities of Milan and Turin.

This is the motivation for the Communication Italy Award to Daniele Cernilli: "For objective information and timely communication in favor of the wine sector during his long and professional activity and for the special attention given to Assoenologi and to the whole category." The three awardees, and with them also Minister Francesco Lollobrigida, will be simultaneously named honorary members of Assoenologi.

Saturday's proceedings will start as early as 9 a.m.: they will begin by talking about Consortia, and then await, among others, the speech of Minister Lollobrigida, whose arrival at the Brixia Forum is scheduled for around 10:30-11 a.m. The afternoon will, on the other hand, be devoted to a much-awaited visit to Franciacorta wineries.

The two-day congress will end with the Gala Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 25.
