La Commendina - Locanda del Bagnoro - esterno

A place just the way we like them, simple, with traditional regional cuisine done to perfection, with the freshest, zero-mile raw materials. There is no shortage of excellent wine selection, which makes everything more enjoyable.

Just a stone's throw from Arezzo in Località Le Pietre, there is this family-run trattoria. The small inn was born from the recovery of an old mill from the early 1900s. The furnishings are simple and the menu draws hands-down from the recipe book of tradition. Raw materials are purchased daily from local producers.

In the dining room is Luca Goti, owner and a great wine enthusiast who has put together a fine menu that ranges yes in Italy but even in Burgundy.

In the kitchen all women with mother Rita acting as chef. The gastronomic lineup is the classic Aretine one, starting with the typical Tuscan crostini - among the best I have ever tasted - and continuing with gnocchi with meat sauce and a "heretical" carbonara made with pici, local pecorino cheese and Chianina (and not pork) cheek. Exquisite, and that's coming from a Roman doc.

This is followed by roast "nana" (duck) and "ocio" (goose).

We close with classic cantucci col vinsanto and a unique cheesecake with a caramelized vinsanto glaze.

Very honest prices between 30 and 50 euros but a lot depends on the wine.
