Cantine del Notaio panorama

A small farmhouse in the middle of the vineyards, an emotional tour, an animated Nativity. This is what the Giuratrabocchetti family, owner of Cantine del Notaio in Vulture, Basilicata, is offering to enotourists.

About three km far from Rionero in Vulture, in one of the most famous and typical districts where the Aglianico del Vulture grape is produced, there is Vigna del Duca estate owned by Cantine del Notaio: two hectares of vineyards and a recently renovated farm house with every comfort. Outside the house there is a pergola with a very well developed wisteria and that gives charm to the house, as well as a large mulberry tree placed near the building itself. A path illuminated with street lamps completes the whole. All around are the vineyard. As in the other vineyards of the property, the cultivated varieties are Aglianico del Vulture for 92%, whereas the remaining part is Moscato bianco.

From here, you can get to the Vulture extinct volcain for a trip, the volcanic Monticchio lakes, the Benedictine church of St. Ippolito and the St. Michele Arcangelo abbey. It is also possible to visit the nearby Melfi (with the Federico II of Svevia’s castle) and Venosa (Orazio Flacco’s native land, seat of the largest Jewish catacombs in Europe and of the Pirro del Balzo’s castle).

Without going too far, however, you should make a visit to the winery booking the emotional tour. It is also worth visiting the animated Nativity scene (Presepe) realized inside the cellar that has a symbolic and allegorical meaning. This work was created starting from an idea of the owner Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti and magistrally composed by a local artist, Edelmondo Paolella, known as Mondino. This Nativity wants to tell the story of the people of Vulture with their works, their thoughts, their sorrows, their joys, their hopes for redemption and salvation. Next to the Holy Family, there are "scenes" dedicated to the vineyard, the cellar, the cooper's workshop. And then the oil lamp, the fountain and the washerwoman, the trattoria, the chimney sweep, the basket maker... a work that goes beyond the religious value linked to Christmas to assume a timeless social value. A Nativity that is worth a visit alone.
