Sauvignon or Pinot Grigio?
We know that there is no point in making juxtapositions; they are two excellent grape varieties that have found a second home in the lands of Friuli. We offer four of them, of excellent quality at a small price.
We have selected two Friulian Sauvignon and two Friulian Pinot Grigio from companies that are readily available in the market because of their good numbers: Cantina Produttori di Cormòns and Collavini for the Sauvignon and Conti Formentini and Puiatti for the Pinot Grigio.
The Cantina Produttori di Cormòns has hundreds of conferring members, who own, all together, about 380 hectares, and it translates all this into good quality wines that can face markets halfway around the world head-on. Among the labels it produces is Vino della Pace, made from nearly 600 different grapes grown locally but sourced from all over the world. It has a different label each year, designed by famous artists, and proceeds from sales go to charity.
Then Collavini, one of the best-known wineries in the entire region. Headed for decades by Manlio Collavini, one of the greatest personalities of Friuli viticulture and the Colli Orientali area in particular. An entrepreneur and former member of parliament, nephew of the winery's founder, it was he who bought the Zucco-Cuccanea castle in 1966, thus moving the wineries to Corno di Rosazzo. Alongside Manlio in running the winery today are his two sons Giovanni and Luigi.
The historic Conti Formentini winery has for several years been taken over by Gruppo Italiano Vini, which has given it an important base, consisting of the production of winemakers once associated in the Steverjan cooperative winery in San Floriano del Collio. Today it offers wines that are well made and excellent value for money.
Finally, the Puiatti winery, now owned by the Angelini Wines & Estates group. The historic founder was Vittorio Puiatti, a charismatic winemaker and producer with a gigantic appearance and infinite talent. His dictates remain at the winery, varietal wines and no wood, trying to enhance the terroir as much as possible. The winery promotes sustainable practices, with organic fertilization, moderate irrigation, biological pest control and biodiversity restoration programs.
