Rosato Marella, the right shade of pink

Podere Marella is a small estate surrounded by an oak forest near the border between the regions of Umbria and Tuscany. It started in the 1970s when Fiammetta Inga discovered and fell in love with this area. The idea to produce wine came much later when after years of selling her grapes to others she decided to bottle her own wine. Today annual production is some 15,000 bottles made from yield vineyards of mostly Sangiovese and Grechetto.
Podere Marealla wines began with the two Godot, a white and a red, and continued with Saltatempo and then with Fiammetta, named after the producer. The estate today is run by her son Cosimo Bisiach who is full of enthusiasm and old fashion kindness. The other night we tasted with him the estate’s latest creation which came about almost by chance but has turned out to be a very enjoyable drinkable wine, especially in view of the upcoming summer. It is called Rosato Marella and is a rosé that finally comes closer to those of Provence with their pale, pink-orange color that promise and usually deliver an enchanting, light and delicate drop.
