Casa e Chiesa, pleasant Merlot from Lucca

Merlot is a grape variety very well acclimatized in the Lucca area, like the Casa e Chiesa, Colline Lucchesi Merlot Doc, by tenuta Lenzini demonstrates..
The Lenzini estate in Gragnano, in the province of Lucca, dates back to the 16th century. It is currently run by Elisabetta, the daughter of Franco Lenzini who acquired the estate at the end of the 1970s, and her husband Michele Guarino. The vineyards are mostly composed of indigenous grapes to underscore the ancient trade ties with France (the Via Francigena pilgrim road passes through here). The vineyards are organic certified. The style of the wines is modern with an extensive use of small, French oak barrels.
