Rimini Rebola

We propose two Romagnoli whites that are very pleasant to drink and cost only 10 euros. But we could have presented many more, because the quality level of Romagna wines has grown so much but prices have not grown as much. It is a region where you can drink well at still moderate prices.

We chose two wines of two different types (and grape varieties), the first a historic wine, the most traditional white wine of the area, the first in Italy to have obtained the DOCG: Albana di Romagna. The second, on the other hand, is a modern wine, Rebola dei Colli Riminesi, a white from the Grechetto Gentile grape. This wine was actually mentioned as early as the 13th century, but then it had practically disappeared and they have been bringing it back to life for a few years.

The producers we selected are Tenuta Masselina for Albana and Tenuta Santini for Rebola, for two white faces of Romagna worth trying.

Formerly owned by Edmondo Fabbri, a famous soccer coach in the 1960s and 1970s, Tenuta Masselina now belongs to the Terre Cevico group, which runs it as its flagship independent of other production activities. Strictly organic viticulture on clay and limestone soils and wines made with great technical precision do the rest and make it one of the interesting realities on the Romagna scene. It owns 16 hectares of vineyards and produces a total of 46 thousand bottles.

Twenty-three hectares of vineyard divided into four estate cru, the vineyards of Beato Entico, Fra' Lorenzo, del Sole and Marcubel, for a total of 70 thousand bottles. Then agritourism and the rampant passion of Sandro Santini. These are the ingredients that make Tenuta Santini one of the landmarks of winemaking in the area. We are in Passano di Coriano, in the hills overlooking Rimini and its endless beaches; here Sangiovese is a serious business and Rebola a major commitment, Santini also being the president of the Association that was formed among the area's producers precisely for the rediscovery and revival of this wine.
