Villa Simone panorama

This verse from a Roman stornello obviously speaks of the Castelli Romani and its wines, historically so appreciated. We offer two, from two wineries that are relatively modern (a few decades old) but are now classics.

We are in two different DOC areas: the first wine comes from the Frascati area, specifically from Monte Porzio Catone, and is Villa Simone's Frascati Superiore Villa dei Preti 2021; the second wine, on the other hand, comes from the Marino area although it is not a DOC, but an IGT, and is Colle Picchioni's Lazio Bianco Donna Paola 2021, the wine dedicated to the winery's founder.E vediamo da vicino le due aziende.

Villa Simone is the winery founded in the 1980s by Piero Costantini, former founder of the historic Roman wine shop in Piazza Cavour, who died just over a year ago. Today it is owned by Lorenzo Costantini, an oenologist who is passionate about the wines of Lazio and in particular Malvasia Puntinata.

The winery is located an hour's drive from the center of Rome, in Monteporzio Catone, and produces excellent Frascati, a wine now snubbed by many but which can offer very enjoyable examples, like those that created its fame in past centuries.

The Colle Picchioni farm, on the other hand, is also located in the Castelli Romani, but in Marino. A small plot of land that was purchased by Paola Di Mauro many years ago, to escape the city and spend a few weekends in the countryside.

That land a few kilometers from Rome soon became a passion that led her to devote herself to wine production. Since 1985 her son Armando has been in charge of the winery, and today the winery is run by her son Valerio, who carries on with passion and dedication the work of grandmother Paola, who left us in 2015.
