Interpretations of white Umbria

Umbria is not just a land of red wines, as comes to mind when thinking of Montefalco or Torgiano. There are also excellent white wines and a wide variety of grape varieties, both indigenous and international.
We offer three whites from different areas and made from different grape varieties, each one succeeding in representing its terroir and all three very reasonably priced.
Let's start with what is a true classic, coming from one of the most traditional areas in central Italy for white wines: Orvieto. We are talking about Bigi's Orvieto Classico Vigneto Torricella 2020. The vineyards of this historic winery (its foundation dates back to the late 19th century) are in the classic Orvieto area, the oldest, between 150 and 450 meters above sea level, on soils of a purely clayey nature. It has been part of the Gruppo Italiano Vini for forty years and produces good wines at reasonable prices. Along with classic Orvieto also labels from Sangiovese grapes.

For the second wine we go south and move very close to Orte, almost in Lazio, where we find the Castello delle Regine estate with its Umbria Bianco delle Regine 2020. Paolo and Livia Nodari's estate started in 1994 when the famous Milanese lawyer bought some hectares of land in Umbria. Today those acres have grown to 385 hectares, of which about 65 are planted with vines and about 20 are planted with olive trees in addition to housing a restaurant and a farmhouse. A paradise made with expertise by its owners who in these lands, thanks also to the work of their excellent team, produce quality wines.
We move northeast again to get to Gualdo Cattaneo (not far from Montefalco) where we find Terre de la Custodia. This is the "wine dépendance" of the large Farchioni olive farm and is getting bigger and better year after year. The range is quite wide, and it also uses the Doc - little known - Colli Martani, as with the Grechetto 2020 we chose. But the spearheads are the various labels of Montefalco Sagrantino and Rosso that it offers, as well as producing an excellent craft beer.
