Fenech, dedizione ed entusiasmo a Salina

When I first heard about Fenech wines my first thought was that the 1970s actress and sex-bomb Edwige Fenech was now making wine. However, this was another Fenech, Francesco, but his smile, wines and vineyards made up for it.

The Fenech family has owned property on Salina since the 19th century but only began to bottle their own wine in the 1990s. The main grape used is obviously Malvasia which is used both fresh and raisinated, the latter for their Passito dessert wine, and they also produce some very interesting capers. There are a total of seven hectares of vineyards, all DOC classified and certified organic, and dedication and enthusiasm reign in their temperature-controlled winery. The soil is volcanic and sandy towards the surface and the grapes are cultivated with a lot of sunshine and skill.

We have tasted their Malvasia Maddalena 2014 and 2015 as well as the Passito Malvasia delle Lipari 2013.
