Obiz: the wines of Aquileia

The Obiz estate is in the DOC appellation of Aquileia and has an extraordinary terroir with vineyards that run into the Adriatic Sea.
In ancient times, Aquileia was second only to Rome for size. Agronomist Yunmani Bergamasco has run the estate ever since his family bought the property in 1997.
For some years now he has benefitted from the consultancy of the expert enologist Francesco (Checco) Visintin who, with great professionalism, makes wines using with both stainless steel and wood. The care taken in the vineyard is extraordinary and essential to ensure the quality of the wine.
The continual upgrading of the work done in the field has allowed the estate to obtain Agro-Climatic-Environmental Conformity certification according to the regulations for agricultural Integrated Production.
Natissa Bianco 2017

A blend of Friulano and Malvasia Istriana with the Friulano matured in glass-lined cement vats while the Malvasia matures for two months in new barriques. The wine has a yellow color with green hues. The bouquet has scents of ripe yellow prunes, wisteria and Melissa, sensations that return in the mouthfeel along with notes of renetta apple and all upheld by a nice citrusy acidity.
Friuli Aquileia Merlot 2016

Made from Merlot grapes and in part matured in truncated cone oak vats and the rest for 20 months in barriques. The color is a distinct ruby with violet reflections while the aroma has notes of blackberry, cherry and ripe prune. The fresh and intriguing mouthfeel echoes the bouquet and is saline with tannins that are hardly noticeable and a long, fruity aftertaste.
