ILBIO Lungarotti, the challenge of sustainability

From the Turrita di Montefalco estate, which became certified organic in 2014, comes IL BIO Lungarotti, a pleasing and versatile wine that promises to have a long lifespan. 

It is good to see how an important and successful producer like Lungarotti does not rest on its laurels. After having put Umbria wines on the map starting in the 1960s, it has continued to look ahead with ideas, projects and constant research and this did not change when Giorgio passed the helm to his daughter Giulia in 1999. In fact, she gave a further boost to this approach.

Lungarotti has continued to expand from its productive center in Torgiano and in 2000 they acquired a 20-hectare estate in Turrita di Montefalco to focus their attention on one of Umbria’s most important grapes: Sagrantino. Here they applied their established philosophy that emphasizes the importance of the environment and three years ago the estate became certified organic. It was only natural then that they would produce a wine that would encompass the characteristics of the estate and the Lungarotti style: environmental sustainability and the need to be bold without overbearing and with a wine made from Sagrantino that is ready to drink yet at the same time has a propensity to age.

The label is also interesting and reproduces the cadaster of the estate complete with the specific characteristics of the vineyard and information on how the wine was made.
