The elitist style of Taurasi Antico Castello

Antico Castello is a small and organic family estate in Irpinia. Among the wines they produce is this excellent Taurasi Riserva 2010.
Francesco and Chiara Romano had the courage to remain in Irpinia to continue the work of their parents at their small family estate Antico Castello. They make wine using only their own grapes from 10 hectares of vineyards in San Mango sul Calore, which sits at an altitude of 450m above sea level and is not far from the valley the Calore River runs through.
Aside from the red Aglianico, they also cultivate the white varietals Fiano, Greco and Falanghina and all according to organic methods. Their wines are territorial, not at all standardized, full of personality and need to age to fully express their characteristics. This is especially true of the Taurasi and Greco wines.
They also produce a distilled spirit from San Mango figs and a vino cotto from Aglianico grapes that is a reinterpretation of typical and traditional local flavors which I strongly you try the first chance you get.
