Cantina Fonzone Caccese Paternopoli Avellino Campania

A young estate in Irpinia with a winery that favors biodiversity and typicity.

The calling card of the Fonzone estate in Partenopoli, in the heart of Irpinia, is its 30-hectrae hill with its 12 hectares of vineyards. Lorenzo Fonzone Caccese founded the winery in 2005 in a suggestive corner of nature to produce typical wines that were an expression of integrated and sustainable winegrowing that favored biodiversity and typicity. The agronomic approach involves “closed circuit” cultivation with a mapping of the soil to allow for targeted agronomic interventions.

The modern winery is almost entirely underground to minimize its impact on the landscape and allow for uninterrupted rows of vineyards as far as the eye can see.

Fonzone produces seven types of wines, representing the best Irpinia offers, for a total of 60,000 bottles a year produced under the supervision of enologist Arturo Erbaggio.

Irpinia Fiano Doc Sequoia 2016

Made from partially botrytized, late-harvest Fiano grapes that ferment in stainless steel and wood. The wine has a golden, straw-yellow color with aromas typical of the varietal and ample scents of citron, sage, chamomile and light smoky hints and hazelnut. The mouthfeel is taut due to the evident acidity, agile and saline but still fat and wrapping with a lovely cleanliness. The finish is composed and persistent.

Bottle produced: 2,800.
