Woman Food Library

From the friendship between two friends, a dream was born to build the largest all-female food bookstore.

A dream, a chat between two friends and a lot of desire to do and get involved. This is how, with passion shaping the future, the Women Food Library was born, an ambitious project that encompasses beauty, kindness and culture. Unity is strength and Carolina Vergnano - CEO of Caffè Vergnano - and Angela Frenda - Director of Cook (Corriere della Sera) - know this well. Together, in fact, they will create the largest women's food library to be housed in the Vergnano Academy in Chieri, a historic family home and now a training center for baristas from around the world. Women Food Library will be open to all and available by appointment; it will collect contemporary and past authors, great classics of the food world but also more experimental and innovative titles.

The titles will be chosen in part by Caffè Vergnano and in part by the readers of Angela Frenda, who every month from her Instagram profile will select with them a series of books that will enrich the Women Food Library. The readers' choices and all the other titles will be told about each month in the Women Cook Book Club newsletter, which can be subscribed to from www.angelafrenda.it (the site will be active from June 1). To understand the genesis of Women Food Library, we have to go back a bit, to the first lockdown to be precise, when Angela Frenda inaugurated a series of directs on Instagram and started her Cook Book Club. Carolina then, inspired by Angela's stories and their shared passion for cooking, confided in her her dream: to create an accurate and valuable all-female food library at the Academy in Chieri. From the sincere bond between these two women and the synergy of their creative minds takes shape the Women Food Library, which has within it an important and timely message: the power of women can take shape and value in any sphere and for many cooks, writers and food writers, the kitchen has been and is, a space of creativity and freedom. Women Food Library is ambitious, it is passionate, it is curious and creative as only women can be. Women Food Library is a choral project where readers are the real protagonists; in fact, they will be the ones to enrich the Library by suggesting titles and authors, making us discover little-known aspects of the food world or new and therefore interesting points of view.

The Vergnano Academy will therefore be tinged with more and more pink and will smell even better! "Our dream wants to become a container of beauty and culture. An opportunity to spend quality time together and share our common passion for books and cooking" Angela Frenda and Carolina Vergnano In addition, Women Food Library and Cook Book Club will meet and greet their readers at the Vergnano Academy in Chieri during the Women Supper Clubs, meetings with dinner with authors.

A series of appointments, with the best women food writers internationally, to chat about their latest books, exchange opinions and, afterwards, have dinner with them as in a real literary circle. Unique opportunities to get to know one's favorite authors or simply get involved with them.

All this with a single charitable purpose, once again alongside and in favor of women. The proceeds of the dinners will, in fact, be donated to Caffè Vergnano's social sustainability project - Women in Coffee - which since 2018 has been supporting women on plantations by selecting each year a new project to believe in and grow. Scheduled events at the moment are set for June, October and December 2022. The first Women Supper Club will be held June 8 at Accademia Vergnano in Chieri (Turin) with bestselling author Simonetta Agnello Hornby, who will present her latest book "La cuntintizza" (Mondadori). Reservations can be made at https://www.eventbrite.it/e/337998682157. "Caffè Vergnano, with Women in Coffee, has always been close to the world of women. With this project, which is really special to Angela and me, we want to speak to the female universe and beyond and reiterate the importance of culture and education to foster empowerment and personal fulfillment. In addition to all this, there is our friendship and our shared love for books and the world of cooking. It is our dream come true and we are proud to share it with all of you." Carolina Vergnano and Angela Frenda.
