Tasting Lagrein 2019, the winners

Schmid Oberrautner, Kellerei Andrian and Kellerei Bozen are the three South Tyrolean wineries that won the Tasting Lagrein Award 2019, the comparative tasting that rewards the best Lagrein in the Kretzer, Classico and Riserva categories.

Kretzer, Classico and Riserva. These are the three souls of one of South Tyrol's most distinctive wines, produced by one of its most famous and beloved autochthonous vines: Lagrein. To this grape and its wines the Tasting Lagrein Award is dedicated as part of Autochtona, the forum dedicated to autochthonous Italian wines at the Bolzano Fair.

This year's winners are: in the "Best Lagrein Kretzer" category is Südtirol Lagrein Kretzer 2018 from Schmid Oberrautner; in the "Best Lagrein Classico" category, Südtirol Lagrein Rubeno 2018 from Kellerei Andrian; and in the "Best Lagrein Riserva" category, Südtirol Lagrein Riserva Taber 2017 from Kellerei Bozen.

After selecting the 12 finalists, 4 from each of the three categories in the competition, after a tasting that examined more than 70 samples, the names of the three wines that obtained the highest score in their respective categories were revealed. "Also this year we are very satisfied with Tasting Lagrein, a comparative tasting that gives the right stage and the well-deserved visibility to one of the great red wines of South Tyrol, land of now famous white wines - comments Eduard Bernhart, director of the South Tyrolean Wine Consortium -. Both the winners and the finalists of this year well photograph a movement always in great turmoil in our region and the result of a fundamental teamwork to enhance our small great mountain viticulture.

The union with the territory has always given strength to Autochtona, born and raised in Bolzano, which also this year has seen the arrival of a large audience and interested in the wines to be tasted. This combination was consolidated with the involvement of journalists and buyers from over 10 countries around the world who visited some of the wineries in the area and with Vinea Tirolensis, the event of independent South Tyrolean winemakers that took place yesterday.
