Sud Top Wine: here are the winners

The international jury of the Sud Top Wine competition chose the best 69 wines, according to different categories, from more than 700 labels from 6 Italian regions. On October 28, the awards ceremony as part of Taormina Gourmet.

Sixty-nine of Southern Italy's best wines were selected by an international jury of wine journalists at the fifth edition of the "Sud Top Wine" wine competition promoted by Cronache di Gusto.

More than 700 wines tasted from six regions - Campania, Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria, Sardinia and Sicily - all tasted blind by the jury, which decreed three winning wines for each of the competition's 23 categories. Awarding the prizes were Wojciech Bońkowski, Master of Wine and editor of the Polish magazine "Ferment," Federico Latteri of Cronache di Gusto, Anthony Rose, contributor of "Decanter" magazine, Eleonora Scholes, of the Russian online magazine "Spazio Vino," and Claudia Stern, journalist of "Vinum" magazine and founder of "Wine & Glory."

The awards ceremony will be held in Taormina on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. at the "Villa Diodoro" Hotel as part of "Taormina Gourmet," the three-day event dedicated to masterclasses, tasting counters and cooking shows, scheduled for Oct. 28-30. It will be a special occasion to bring together leading wine producers from the six regions involved and recognize the wine excellence they represent. During the ceremony, which will be attended by journalist Daniele Cernilli and some of the jurors of the competition, the producers will be presented with the parchment certifying the award received during the fifth edition of Sud Top Wine, which symbolizes the significant contribution of each winery to the world of wine.

Also this year at the disposal of the award-winning wineries a vignette to be placed on the neck of the bottle of the awarded wine, which will bear the logo of the competition with the indication "1st place" (for the first place) and "winner" (for the second and third place). The winning wines again this year will have the opportunity to be promoted in the U.S. through Colangelo & Partners, among New York's leading communications agencies dedicated to the world of food & wine, which has long supported Sud Top Wine in its promotional work in North American markets. The promotional activity also includes sending the winning wines to a group of European journalists to create other visibility opportunities for the winning wineries. Among this year's novelties is the large space at the "Taormina Gourmet" Tasting Booth dedicated entirely to the 69 wines awarded as part of the fifth edition of Sud Top Wine, whose sponsors include "Il Picciolo Etna Golf, Resort & Spa," which hosted the event.

"Our intention," says Fabrizio Carrera, director of Cronache di gusto and creator of the Sud Top Wine competition, "is also to bring together all the Agriculture Councillors of the six regions involved who will symbolically sign The Pact for Quality, to represent the interest in defending the most representative products of Southern Italy. This will be an important media moment through which to sign an agreement in order to improve synergies in this area of Italy."
