A Hercules for the wines of Molise

The Pro Loco Maccla Association, in collaboration with the Municipality of Macchia d'Isernia, is organizing the Macchia d'Isernia Premio Ercole Wine Competition, reserved for wines from Molisian wineries. The Competition aims to highlight the best production of regional wines, enhance their typicality and make them known to the general public, while rewarding the wineries that have committed themselves to the continuous qualitative improvement of their products, spreading the Molise brand in Italy and around the world.

 

The Competition will take place in November 2022 and is open to wines produced in Molise by local wineries and falling within the Molise, Biferno, Pentro and Tintilia del Molise DOCs. Each winery may submit multiple types of wines for the same category and multiple wines for different categories to the Competition.

 

The selections will be held at the Municipality of Macchia d'Isernia on November 18-21, 2022, and will be entrusted to committees of wine experts, who will decree for each category the "Macchia d'Isernia Wine Competition Hercules Award 2022," in the form of a bronze statuette depicting the Samnite Hercules. The award is inspired by a bronze statuette of a Hercules, a votive object widespread among the Sabellian people, which may date back to the 3rd or early 2nd century B.C. found by chance in March 1980 by a farmer while plowing his field near Macchia d'Isernia (IS).
