5 Apulian DOP Consortia: cancel Vinitaly 2020

The consortia for the protection of Primitivo di Manduria doc and docg, Salice Salentino dop Wines, Gioia del Colle doc Wines, Brindisi and Squinzano doc Wines, Castel del Monte doc and docg Wines jointly express their willingness to postpone the Verona Fair until 2021.
We read in a joint note sent to the editorial offices: "In this period of evolving state of emergency, we realize how necessary it is to present a united sector with shared objectives. Among them, the protection and relaunch of Made in Italy in general, and of the Italian agri-food industry in particular, are of primary importance. These objectives must be pursued with actions and events that have a precise strategy.
The Vinitaly trade fair is certainly an identity event for Italian wine and it seems to us, unfortunately, that the necessary conditions are not in place to guarantee an event of international level and quality and resonance, as Vinitaly's own standards have accustomed us to. There are several reasons for this, including, first of all, health safety; but obviously the competent institutions will be watching over this. But for our producers and for the Consorzio di Tutela del Primitivo di Manduria doc and docg, the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Dop Salice Salentino, the Consorzio dei Vini Gioia del Colle Doc, the Consorzio per la Tutela dei vini Doc Brindisi e Squinzano and for the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Castel del Monte doc and docg, participation in the Verona event represents a demanding investment decision for the annual budget and the fear is that it will not attract the necessary attention.
